Do you think the roles for women in movies have improved or gotten worse over time?

Back in the 30, 40s and 50s, there were actresses like the bawdy Mae West, the fierce Joan Crawford and Bette Davis, the driven Vivien Leigh, the goofy Carole Lombard, and the seductive Jean Harlow, the graceful Audrey Hepburn, the y Katherine Hepburn, and the foul-mouthed Ava Gardner. Do you think women are more empowered in modern films? Or did women used to have have more interesting roles?
