What do you use to kill fire ants?

The mounds are huge. As if they are all in a big Village with kin folk over the yard. S.C. I would like to at least attempt to kill them before I start cutting the gr. These ants are smart, the suckers seem to move when I mess with them. And start new mounds in other places in the yard. Any wisdom out there?
