Alternative to having a permanent Catheter for an 85 year old male?

My father is 85 and has had continual problems with his Prostate and now has a permanent Catheter, however, this is becoming extremely uncomfortable and he has been going back and forth into hospital due to the Catheter blocking and causing pain and leakage. Is there another alternative to the permanent Catheter such as a Bladder Operation in order to give him better quality of life.
