Is Robert Wright's book "The Evolution of God"?....?

Robert Wright a 'tolerant' atheist, defends religion in his book (The Evolution of God), by explaining that religions are evolving or getting closer to the "truth" of finding God. Not God almighty being (because he doesn't exist), but I quote: "the existence of a moral order." Does this make sense? I'm in a limbo. Can anyone explain this?
