Why would LDS family services tell a birth mother that she never had a baby and she should just forget it?

when at the time her child was 18 years old. I am now 25. And told me the samething but they added I should be greatful for what i have. now how can an organation that teaches Family First tell a mother and child who want to be with each other to just foreget about it it never happened. Now I was raised Mormon but have not been active since i was 17. my birthmother was raised Mormon as well she was 16 at the time she had me the daughtor of a stake prez. her father sent her away tell she had me. he forced her to put me up. she did not want to. But nonetheless i may not beliave in the church i do and always will live my life according to the morals and ethecis.
