Do I still need surgery on my belly on?

When I was in elementary school my doctor kept on bringing up that I needed surgery on my belly on. I have an outie, but it doesn't stick out that much. I am now in high school and I haven't had the surgery yet. My doctor hasn't really talked about my belly on for a while now. Do I still need the surgery? Also, they never explained why I need the surgery. They said I might not need the surgery if my belly on turns into an innie, but it hasn't. Do I have an umbilical hernia? Or did they just want me to get surgery to make it an innie so I'm more confident or something?
