Can something like this really be a true story? My cousin, aunt, and older brother all say it is.?

There are such stories that ones mind just won't accept...this one seems true...just because slavery was abolished in the 1860's doesn't mean all african americans were "free". slavery excists still to this day, why wouldn't it have happened back then?
